Encaustic Painting Demo at 3g:

Encaustic, from the ancient Greek word "enkaustikos" means to heat or to burn in. It is an archaic medium used by the Greeks and Romans over 2000 years ago. Consisting of beeswax melted with some resin, it becomes a painting medium when pigment is added. What makes encaustic a unique painting method is the application of heat between layers of brush strokes. Friday, June 6th, artist Arla Smith Evanoff will offer a free demonstration of this ancient technique at Art3g as part of the current show, Serious Play. The show also features artworks by Harry Albrecht, Sachiko Kusachi, Leone McNeil, Paul Springer, Beta Heist Morello, Gregg Jabs, Robin Borgers and Jess Thompson. The demonstration starts at 5:45 and is open to the public. For more information, 707-964-9666.
