Dunkirk, New York native Harry C. Albrecht died suddenly on Saturday, November 21, 2009 in Ukiah, CA. Harry was born December 16, 1936 and attended schools in Dunkirk, New York. After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps, serving from 1954 to 1957. He attended the University of New York at Fredonia, then graduated from San Francisco Art In-stitute in 1961 with a BFA.
Returning to New York, Albrecht taught for a few years at Bryant-Stratton Business School and at Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York. In 1969, Harry relocated to California and became a carpenter and general contractor, specializing in small business and home remodeling in the Bay Area.
His primary passion was abstract painting. He regarded himself as an "Underground" painter. Harry exhibited in many venues and his work is in private collections on the East and West Coasts. He retired and moved to Fort Bragg in 2003, and there enjoyed painting and showing in Mendocino Coast venues.
He leaves behind his loving companion and friend, Valerie Warda of Ukiah, CA; and former wife and friend, Barbara White of Chula Vista, CA. Harry is survived by his brother Herbert Albrecht and many loving nieces and nephews in Western New York.
He is predeceased by his parents, John and Emma Albrecht, and his sisters Myra Moore and Helen Boner.A private celebration of Harry's life and artwork was held for friends at his Fort Bragg home on December 12th.
